The Winter School for young psychiatrists was organized in December 2004 at Mećavnik, an ethno-village of the renowned filmmaker Emir Kusturica, with the aim of assisting young psychiatrists in acquiring professional skills for scientific and clinical work, areas that had received little attention within basic and postgraduate medical studies until then. Through lectures and poster sessions, participants were introduced to skills in oral and written presentation of scientific papers, preparation of presentations and lectures, reading of professional literature, and other essential competencies.
The Winter School, which took place from December 6 to 9, 2004, was organized by the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade and the Center for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia. This was the first such school in Serbia and the region, structured after the model of the Berlin School for young psychiatrists. The coordinators of the School were Prof. Dr. Norman Sartorius, Prof. Dr. Dušica Lečić Toševski, Prof. Dr. Ivana Timotijević, and Dr. Nataša Caran, while the moderators included Asist. Dr. Nađa Marić-Bojović, Asist. Dr. Milica Pejović-Milovančević, Asist. Dr. Milan Latas, and Dr. Tamara Čavić.
