50th Symposium of the Psychiatric clinic UCCS: The Spectrum of the Mind: Evolution of Knowledge

October 22 @ 8:00 am - October 23 @ 5:00 pm

Dear colleagues and friends,

With great pride and sincere pleasure, we invite you to join us in celebrating a major anniversary — 50 years of the Symposium of the Clinic for Psychiatry of the University Clinical Center of Serbia.

Our jubilee 50th Symposium, entitled “The Spectrum of the Mind: The Evolution of Knowledge,” will be held on 22 and 23 October in Belgrade, at Ložionica – the Center for Creative Industries and Innovation.

Half a century of the Symposium represents far more than the anniversary of a professional meeting. It is a testament to continuity of knowledge, scientific curiosity, academic excellence, and dedication to understanding people and their mental health. At the same time, it is an opportunity to look back on the path psychiatry has taken over previous decades, and to open space for questions, ideas, and directions that will shape its future.

The Clinic for Psychiatry of the UCCS, as the oldest academic institution in the field of psychiatry in this region, has for more than a century been one of the key places for the development of psychiatric thought, education, and clinical practice in Serbia and the wider region. Within its framework, various areas of modern psychiatry have evolved, schools of thought have been formed, and generations of experts, professors, and academic leaders have emerged, leaving a profound mark on the development of our discipline.

For this very reason, the program of the jubilee Symposium is conceived as a modern, comprehensive, and dynamic overview of the evolution of psychiatry and of the Clinic itself — from its foundations to the challenges of the future.

Through a series of thematic sessions, we will present key areas that have shaped the work of the Clinic and contemporary psychiatry: from the biology of mental disorders, psychopharmacology, and psychotherapy, through forensic psychiatry, to new interdisciplinary approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of mental health. Special attention will be given to the meeting point of tradition and contemporary scientific achievements, as well as to questions that are now reshaping the boundaries of our profession.

We are honored that the jubilee will be enriched by the presence of distinguished international experts, including Prof. Andrea Fiorillo (President of the European Psychiatric Association – EPA), Prof. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg (Director of the Central Institute of Mental Health, Heidelberg University; member of the German National Academy of Sciences), Prof. Thomas Sack (Director of the Outpatient Clinic for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Maastricht University), Prof. Lucie Bartošová (Secretary of the EPA Section on Psychopharmacology), Prof. Farhad Dalal (training group analyst and supervisor at the Institute of Group Analysis, London), as well as many esteemed colleagues from abroad, the region, and our country (more information about the workshop and symposium program is provided in the attachment).

A particular pleasure will also be the meeting of psychiatry with art and society through guest appearances by film director Srđan Dragojević, theatre director Jana Maričić, and actress Hristina Popović—in the spirit of the Clinic, we wish to open yet another space for reflecting on people, their relationships, emotions, and the time in which we live.

We believe that the significance of an anniversary lies not only in the years behind us, but above all in the people who have created, preserved, and carried forward its tradition. That is why it is extremely important to us to share this moment with colleagues, friends, and partners who recognize the importance of advancing psychiatry, science, and mental health.

It will be a great honor and pleasure to mark together half a century of an important tradition—and, building on the knowledge we have inherited, preserved, developed, and lived, to open a new chapter of psychiatry together.

Welcome to the 50th Symposium of the Clinic for Psychiatry of the UCCS – “The Spectrum of the Mind: The Evolution of Knowledge.”

On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committee of the 50th Symposium of the Clinic for Psychiatry of the UCCS,
